Our good friend Robert van Koesveld has announced an exciting workshop in Kolkata this January which he is running together with his friend Manjit Singh Hoonjan. This a great chance to make images of one of the world’s great cities and of its people, with time to develop your personal art, narratives and vision. Lots of varied photography from a single comfortable base, with space to learn and think.
Kolkata is the cultural capital of India and one of the world’s great cities. It reflects the delicious complexity of an Indian banquet, with surprising combinations of flavours, sights, smells, textures, sounds, origins, beliefs and stories.
Travel can too easily become one long road trip. Time is lost packing, travelling and unpacking. There is great pleasure to be had getting a little more familiar with a particular place. This is Manjit’s home town and he has been helping visiting photographers engage with it for several years.
We will be exploring the culturally diverse enclaves, the dynamic markets, evening temples, colonial remnants and traditional artists, wrestlers and performers. And then there is the food…
